From rovings to woven fabric: Building the foundation for InVECOF composites

24/09/2026

Behind every advanced composite structure lies a carefully engineered textile architecture. Long before a final demonstrator takes shape, fibres must be prepared, arranged and woven into fabrics that provide the foundation for the subsequent composite manufacturing steps.

Within InVECOF, this process is bringing the project’s fibres one step further towards their integration into composite structures.

The manufacturing journey begins with rovings on the creel, followed by careful loom preparation and weaving. Throughout these stages, precise control of the individual filaments and weave pattern is essential to produce the textile architecture required for the next stages of composite development.

The resulting woven fabric provides the basis from which the project partners can continue developing InVECOF’s composite structures. While finished components and demonstrators often receive the most attention, their development depends on the quality and precision achieved much earlier in the manufacturing chain.

This progress offers a glimpse behind the scenes of InVECOF, highlighting the combination of materials development, textile engineering and manufacturing expertise needed to transform ceramic fibres into the foundations of advanced composite structures.
